A Mystic Winter

Mystic Seaport, Connecticut, USA, is one of the finest maritime museum experiences to be had in the world. But they do it tough in a hard northern hemisphere winter.

These two pictures were taken during February 2015’s big east coast USA freeze. The top one shows Joseph Conrad and Mystic’s recently restored whaleship Charles W Morgan surrounded by ice and snow.

The second picture is taken in Mystic’s shipyard where Mayflower II, a replica of the ship used by the Pilgrim Fathers to travel to the New World in 1620 and establish a colony at Plymouth, Massachusetts, is undergoing restoration. Mayflower II was built 57 years ago and is in need of a major refit in time for the 400th anniversary of her namesakes arrival in America.
